Summer 2019 Business/Human Resources Internship (Supported by Small Business Internship Fund)

This internship opportunity is supported by the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Internship Fund. 

Students interested in participating in the Small Business Internship Fund must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Be a resident of Lackawanna County currently enrolled in a college or university
  • Be a currently enrolled student of a Lackawanna County college or university
  • Be a currently enrolled student of a Chamber member college or university: Clarks Summit University, Fortis Institute, Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, Johnson College, Keystone College, Lackawanna College, Luzerne County Community College, Marywood University, Misericordia University, Penn State Scranton, The University of Scranton, Wilkes University. 


The Business Office/Human Resources intern is a position focused on support and learning. The Intern will help daily with front office and human resources tasks. The intern will report to the Assistant Controller, as well as Benefits and Recruiter Coordinator.


  • Summer 2019, June-August
  • 25-40 hours per week, 10 weeks
  • $10/hour
  • Scranton, PA 


  • College level accredited business coursework
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel
  • Ability to work with multiple departments
  • Ability to multitask
  • Excellent written and verbal communication 
  • Ability to work as part of a team and take direction as necessary
  • Outstanding critical thinking and analytical skills


  • Assist in welcoming visitors and guests, answering phones, directing to company resources
  • Update OSHA log book
  • Record and file all workers compensation documentation
  • Assist with and attend all safety meetings 
  • Post job openings using Zip Recruiter, Indeed, Craigs List, print, and other advertising
  • Gather applicants, screen and review with Benefits & Recruiter Coordinator, practice explaining job positions and required skill sets
  • Assist with administration of benefits to employees, with Benefits & Recruiter Coordinator
