Summer 2019 Hospitality Internship (Supported by the Small Business Internship Fund)

This internship opportunity is supported by the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Internship Fund.

Students interested in participating in the Small Business Internship Fund must meet at least one of the following criteria:

 

  • Be a resident of Lackawanna County currently enrolled in a college or university
  • Be a currently enrolled student of a Lackawanna County college or university
  • Be a currently enrolled student of a Chamber member college or university: Clarks Summit University, Fortis Institute, Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, Johnson College, Keystone College, Lackawanna College, Luzerne County Community College, Marywood University, Misericordia University, Penn State Scranton, The University of Scranton, Wilkes University.

Summer 2019 Hospitality Internship

 

Students who partake in this internship will get the unique opportunity to see how one of the largest Wyndham branded hotels operates. This learning experience will allow the individual to develop and hone valuable, transferable skills while also providing an in-depth knowledge of the Front Desk,  how the hospitality industry works on a daily basis. This internship will be most beneficial for those pursuing a degree in hospitality or a career in sales, although students from all backgrounds are encouraged and welcome to apply. This will be a great opportunity to get hands on experience in Customer service which is a transferable talent for any business.  

 

Logistics:

  • Summer 2019, June start
  • 10-12 hours per week / 10 weeks
  • $10 / hour
  • Available to work Friday’s
  • Scranton, PA
 

Qualifications:

 

  • Coursework or relevant experience in Hospitality and/or Business
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

 

  • Ability to identify and assess customers' needs to achieve satisfaction
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated skills in general office procedures
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment

Projects:

  • Learn the Wyndham Reservation System: Check-In  Guests (Register, process guests and assign rooms)
  • Answer telephone calls and process guests' reservations
  • Accommodate guest requests by providing excellent customer service
  • Communicating with hotel staff on the status of guest rooms
  • Up Selling guest rooms and promoting hotel services on Social Media
  • Also as discussed on the phone,  kindly share the information of Admissions department,  so that we can work out some discount for the out of town parents who might visit for College Open House
 

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop a better understanding of how a hotel operates on a daily basis
  • Exposure to interacting with guests, building team skills, and providing accommodations
