Spring 2023 Small Business Financial Analysis/Consulting Internship

Application process open to current University of Scranton Students:

Gain valuable experience by assisting the SBDC with small business consulting! You'll be helping small business clients by providing sound financial research and analysis and information and/or by providing information to help them rethink their business models after the impacts of the COVID-19 global pandemic. 

The University of Scranton Small Business Development Center (SBDC) provides consulting and training to businesses of an 8-county region of northeastern Pennsylvania. Part of a nationally-accredited network, the SBDC is located on The University of Scranton campus.

This is a hybrid opportunity with some in-person work as well as remote work, depending on the student's schedule, office availability and current health & safety guidelines.

Logistics:

  • Spring 2023, Early February start, 10-12 weeks
  • This is a hybrid internship with remote and some in-person work
  • 10-20 hours per week / $10/hour

* Requirement: Students are required to check with their college/university career development office to find out if any guidelines, must be followed and/or requirements must be met for the internship (health & safety, academic or other), by the student and/or the small business host.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a current University of Scranton student, enrolled in classes for the Spring semester
  • Savvy research skills - database, library, organic searches
  • Strong financial / accounting analysis background and coursework
  • Experienced Excel user
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills

Projects:

Develop your financial analysis skills by working with SBDC consultants to assist start-ups and growing businesses.

  • Reviewing business plans, assisting with project cost development, and break-even analysis.
  • Assisting SBDC clients by developing projections (profit and loss, balance, cash flow).
  • Analyzing current financials of businesses using information including, but not limited to: tax returns, QuickBooks reports, client meetings, and others.
  • Comparing historical and industry data and/or multipliers against current financials or projections.
  • Assisting SBDC Business Consultants by gathering required documents from small businesses, compiling data, and assisting them with applications to various grant and loan programs.
