Noteology, a Boutique Perfumery and Custom Perfume Studio, has an exciting internship opportunity in retail sales and customer service at its newly expanded flagship store in Scranton.

Noteology is the first and only perfumery in Pennsylvania with people coming from around the globe to experience the patented Custom Perfume Studio experience. Noteology also owns a niche fragrance subscription box service and discovery platform, Olfactif, that the intern will also be exposed to. During the fall semester, they will also be launching a Custom Candle Studio where customers can make their own candles with the Noteology staff!

The retail and customer service internship will be focused on the retail side of the business, which includes, but is not limited to: 1) introducing customers to the 2 brands: Noteology and Olfactif, 2) learning the product offerings and benefits in order to educate the customer, 3) apprenticing with their Scent Designers to take customers through the Custom Perfume Studio experience, 4) learning how to create excellent customer service skills through professionalism, positivity and personalized rapport, 5) creating and implementing merchandising plans for general and holiday shopping experiences, 6) learning sales techniques and metrics, including: soft vs. hard selling, upselling, cross-selling, expertise selling to increase ticket sales, 7) and help to bring revenue to the company via customer sales, measured by customer conversion ratios.

The student will also have the unique opportunity of being exposed to many varied aspects of the brands including retail store merchandising, social media, ecommerce sales and distribution and exposure to the manufacturing side of the business. This internship will be very entrepreneurial in nature, with the student gaining valuable insights into many aspects of a small, family-run business.

This opportunity is a traditional (semester-long) in-person internship.

Logistics*:

  • Fall 2022 semester, September 5th start date (start date can be flexible)
  • 8-12 hours per week (can be more if candidate is interested)
  • $10/hour
  • 537 Wyoming Ave., Scranton PA location
  • This opportunity will be in-person/on-site

Qualifications:

  • General Business, Marketing, Hospitality, Entrepreneurship, or Operations Management coursework of any collegiate level
  • Strong time and project management skills
  • Excellent verbal communication, basic math and problem-solving skills
  • Positive, professional, outgoing personality with a hands-on attitude
  • Strong technology and Microsoft Suite skills  
  • Interest in entrepreneurship and small business operations
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Lifting ability up to 50 lbs. as needed
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time, could be the entire day, up to 8 hours
  • Passion for perfumery scented products, skincare, cosmetics, candles and fine fragrance are a plus but not required

Projects:

Throughout this process, you will have the ability to learn retail sales, customer relations, daily operations, multiple revenue channels, and social media, from the store owners and key staff.

  • Sales and Customer Experience: learning how to properly greet customers in a friendly and professional manner, give them a tour of the shop and our offerings along with answering any brand & product related questions and completing the customer transaction at the register with our POS system.
  • Entry level Scent Designer Education & Training: Student will start beginner training on the Custom Perfume Experience where customers make their own perfume with Noteology’s Scent Designers.
  • New Product Development: The Custom Candle Bar will be launching during this semester thus the student will be exposed to and have input on the product selection, the making experience and the flow of this make-your-own candle experience.
  • Social Media & Marketing: assist the team in creating social media content and photos and using strategy to place them on the 3 accounts using scheduling software. Measurable results can be tied to instore sales based on social media image/content (i.e.: a customer comes in that day and buys the product that was presented) as well as digital marketing insights and analytics that are built into the social media platforms.
