Thinking of a career in optometry? Optometrists don't just prescribe eyeglasses and contacts, they are also the primary health care providers for eyes. Optometrists treat/manage all types of eye diseases and prescribe medication to ensure good ocular health. Come and see if this is the right field for you as you work with a seasoned optometrist who is there to guide you and answer any questions you may have.

Logistics:

  • Immediate start with August end date
  • 10 hours/ week minimum, but more hours can be accommodated (flexible schedule)
  • Pay Rate of $10/hr
  • On-site internship at 921 Drinker Tpke Ste 15. Covington Twp, PA 18444

Qualifications:

  • Biology, Science, Premed Majors (Those interested in Optometry)
  • Freshman-Graduate Student
  • Willingness to learn new computer programs
  • Has an attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a team setting
  • Understands the importance of customer service and professionalism

Projects:

In this internship, you will get a glimpse into the work-life of an optometrist and you will learn how to work directly one on one with patients:

  • Prescreening patients for the doctor
  • Greeting patients and verifying insurance authorizations
  • Neutralizing eyeglass prescriptions
  • Reviewing the patient history and updating medications
  • Taking entering visual acuities
  • Placing orders in the patient charts
  • Learn how to operate/ perform visual field testing
  • Learn how to operate/ perform fundus photography
  • Assist doctor in dry eye testing
  • Learn about the different types of contact lenses and teach contact lens insertion and removal
  • Assist patients in frame selection and learn about different types of eyeglass lenses
  • Determine patient co-pays for frames and lenses and assist in sending claims to insurance companies and any other duties required to help the office run smoothly.
