Sharpen your project management skills and gain a greater understanding of fitness and its benefit for those who suffer with Parkinson’s Disease. Rock Steady Boxing Northeast PA provides a non-contact, boxing-inspired Parkinson’s fitness program in two locations, Old Forge and Tunkhannock.  Intense exercise has been shown to slow the progression of Parkinson’s disease.  We have classes for people of all stages of Parkinson’s from newly diagnosed to significantly impaired because for people with Parkinson’s Exercise is Medicine! We currently serve over 70 people with Parkinson’s.

Make a difference to others! Play a key role in launching a new pilot project aimed at providing their members with greater information about their balance, functional status, fall risk, and quality of life living with Parkinson’s! Utilizing your management skills, you will help this small business begin use of a new assessment application utilizing an electronic tablet that will help their members see their own improvements!

This opportunity is an in-person internship which may include some virtual work.

Logistics:  *This is a SLIP (State and Local Internship Program) internship, with specific requirements*, as noted:

  • Summer 2021, June start
  • * 25-30 hours per week for 8 consecutive weeks
  • $12/hour
  • Old Forge, PA location (minutes from Scranton)
  • This opportunity will be in-person/on-site**, with some flex to virtual work
  • * Must be between the ages of 18-24, Lackawanna County resident

Qualifications:

  • Business, project management, operations, technology or health sciences coursework
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Strong technology skills (specific to electronic tablet use)
  • Outgoing, caring personality
  • Interest in healthcare or related field
  • Ability to utilize online meeting platforms as needed (equipment will be provided)

Projects:

Collaborate with this small business owner to launch and integrate this new assessment application technology into her business. Utilizing equipment and app provided, you’ll use your management and leadership skills to launch the technology into two locations in NEPA. This will include:

  • Getting it up-and-running! Beginning operational elements of the technology
  • Coordinating with the application developer and the business owner
  • Integrating current member information into technology
  • Layout of a plan to begin using the technology and monitoring its success
  • Addressing any use challenges and offering solutions which might improve them
  • Be an assessment coordinator by performing boxer photos, information updating and assessment scheduling
  • Recruit and train volunteer assessment coordinators for ongoing operation post internship
  • Providing informal training to small business staff and volunteers on the technology use and benefits and follow up monitoring with ownership
  • Additional projects may be assigned as needed such as setting up a monthly fundraising project and/or organizing and updating our membership photo displays.
