This internship opportunity is supported by the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Internship Fund. 

Students interested in participating in the Small Business Internship Fund must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Be a resident of Lackawanna County currently enrolled in a college or university
  • Be a currently enrolled student of a Lackawanna County college or university
  • Be a currently enrolled student of a Chamber member college or university: Clarks Summit University, Fortis Institute, Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, Johnson College, Keystone College, Lackawanna College, Luzerne County Community College, Marywood University, Misericordia University, Penn State Scranton, The University of Scranton, Wilkes University.

Property Management and Real Estate

This internship opportunity will provide the student with the opportunity to receive training and valuable knowledge in property management operations, real estate acquisition and holdings, general office operations and many other skills that can be applied over a variety of industries. Ideal for Business Administration / Management or Real Estate-related majors

Logistics

  • Spring 2020 Mid-February to Early May
  • 8-10 Hours per week, Monday through Friday
  • $10.00/Hour
  • Scranton, PA

Education Level / Qualifications

  • Junior/Senior level
  • Customer service skills – creative, organized, dependable, strong communication skills
  • Self-starter; able to take initiative and make decisions with minimal direction
  • A good familiarity with technology and social media knowledge, write and format letters, update WORD / Excel files, manage data, etc.
  • The ability interactive with customers and clients face-to-face
  • Willingness to sign confidentiality agreement and keep all sensitive information confidential
  • Reliable transportation

Projects

  • Prepare, maintain and process current and incoming renter applications
  • Create files and prepare for move-ins
  • Maintain tenant relations, including resolution of tenant issues and phone calls to all delinquent tenants on a daily basis
  • Process rejected rental applications
  • Obtain move out inspection reports from maintenance
  • Help determine the damage charges to the moved out tenants
  • Process collection filings for ex-tenants
  • Follow up with maintenance requests to ensure services were delivered
  • Increase potential client response to apartment listings through more effective marketing maintaining company’s social media accounts

Learning Objectives

  • Learn the basic structure and operations of the property management industry, in order to gain an understanding of how to act as an effective property manager
  • Gain knowledge and experience of the process of real estate acquisition and holdings, to learn how to practically provide service to all different kinds of clients/customers
  • Gain an understanding of multiple functional areas within the business with an opportunity to be creative and apply academic knowledge to given projects
