This internship opportunity is supported by the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Internship Fund.

Students interested in participating in the Small Business Internship Fund must meet at least one of the following criteria:

 

  • Be a resident of Lackawanna County currently enrolled in a college or university
  • Be a currently enrolled student of a Lackawanna County college or university
  • Be a currently enrolled student of a Chamber member college or university: Clarks Summit University, Fortis Institute, Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, Johnson College, Keystone College, Lackawanna College, Luzerne County Community College, Marywood University, Misericordia University, Penn State Scranton, The University of Scranton, Wilkes University.

The world's largest supplemental education company is seeking interns to assist with instruction to their youngest students. Kumon of Clarks Summit is looking for individuals with who enjoy working in a quiet learning environment. Qualified candidates should love working with young children and be willing to learn the Kumon method through paid training sessions.

Kumon is an after-school math and reading enrichment program that was founded in Japan in 1958. Kumon offers a method of learning that provides individualized, self-paced instruction of math and reading aimed at helping children reach and exceed their school grade level.

Logistics:

  • Spring internship
  • 10 business hours per week, 10 weeks
  • $10/hour
  • Mondays and Thursdays 3:00-7:00 p.m., flexible

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to multi-task while working one-on-one with multiple students
  • Ability to grade students' work efficiently
  • Must be available to work the schedule noted
  • Must be reliable and punctual
  • Must pass a skills test and background check

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about classroom management and lesson planning
    Gain skills for reporting student information and test scores. 

Projects:

  • Guide students to complete assignments according to the Kumon method
  • Record students' progress and communicate with the Instructor
  • Assist new students with the Center routine and development of good work skills
