Small Business Internship Initiative

University of Scranton Students: we are looking for an intern to join our Small Business Development Center team, working with our Small Business Internship Initiative!

The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with our SBDC, offers an exciting new Small Business Internship Fund, which seeks to place the area’s best and brightest students in Chamber member businesses. The SBDC Intern will play an active role on our team, working with entrepreneurs to develop, promote, and make great internships happen!

Logistics:

  • Summer 2019, May or June start, approx 10-12 weeks
  • On campus location
  • 10-15 hours per week
  • $10/hour 

Qualifications:

  • Must be current University of Scranton student 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, strong editing skills
  • Excellent computer skills with experience in social media & Microsoft Office
  • Dependability and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Friendly and outgoing
  • An interest in working with small businesses and a desire to help our region grow

Projects:

The intern will manage small business client cases from start to finish, including:

  • Performing eligibility verification using SBA Small Business Size Standards
  • Establishing productive relationships with small business participants through e-mail, meetings, and phone calls
  • Gathering and confirming receipt of all required documentation
  • Creating the opportunity on smallbusinessinternships.com and promoting via social media platforms, to Career Development partners, and other contacts
  • Managing application flow, releasing applications to clients and maintaining client relationships
  • Coordinating business and student evaluations, gathering information and developing success stories
  • Performing all required data entry and reporting

The Small Business Internship Initiative offers entrepreneurs the opportunity to grow their businesses with the help of local student interns, while providing students access to experiential learning close to campus. The SBDC provides confidential guidance to help clients determine whether hosting an intern is the right option along with assistance in preparing internship descriptions, guidance with conducting interviews, supervisory skills, and more.
